Title & Author: Chapter 1: The Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coach: From Survival to Significance by Dr. Mike Gentry

Publisher & Year: Central Virginia Sports Performance; 2016

REVIEW:

“I sincerely believe that there are foundational principles of working with and leading people that transcend industries.” –Dr. Gentry

The Manual (CVASP, 2016), starts off with a chapter written by Dr. Mike Gentry where he describes a platform of guidelines and principles strength coaches may use to have program success. The most appealing aspect of this chapter for me was the way it’s structured. It almost feels like a checklist that I can look back and study for many years to come. As Dr. Gentry states, ”I’ve personally used all of the stated principles with some success over my thirty-four-year career as a Head Division 1-A Strength and Conditioning”, which is pretty cool. The chapter is extremely short, and the content is very limited in terms of expanded ideas on the principles that are presented. What this chapter presents is a no nonsense approach to help any strength and conditioning program succeed.
