Episode 116: Mike Bewley: How a Personal Litmus Test Truly Enhanced His Program

“To me, that’s the ultimate Litmus Test. If you got something in your weight room, or you have some sort of mantra. Go to your kids and say “can you recite that? And more importantly can you define it?” If they can’t, it’s an opportunity for you to step back and say, “ok, how strong is my culture? How am I trying to support the staff upstairs? How am I trying to create that connection so we are all speaking and saying the same thing and reinforcing on and other’s end goals?” I think if you do that the score board will take care of itself.” Mike Bewley

We are joined by Clemson’s Mike Bewley in this week’s edition of The Podcast. We start out catching up Mike on his travels from Dayton, to Atlanta (GA Tech) and now Clemson. That leads right into why he feels he was attractive to Clemson and how they have started to “turn things around” in the weight room. Coach shares with us some specific steps he took to build the “culture” back in the weight room. These were building accountability “contractually”, and defining everything that they are doing from goals, to their focal point phrases and terms were.  This was due to an internal Littman’s test that he ran, that they group failed awfully. Next, he shares a story about how using a pair of boxing gloves and a breakfast club helped reinforce their mantra and get people to not only buy into that but buy into each other. We finished off talking about Critical Reload, what it is, how it came about, and where they’re going.  Check out more about it here:
