Flashback Friday, 2013-Henk Kraaijenhof-Improving Speed and Explosive Power

“So, if you do explosive training, if you do power training what is very important is the quality of the training. It’s not by volume, it’s the intensity. Intensity means quality.”

In his second presentation from The 2013 Seminar, Henk Kraaijenhof breaks down different methods he has utilized in improving explosive power in athletes. The presentation starts out with Henk discussing what the goals of training should be in training for explosive power. This is the backbone of the presentation and leads him directly into how he evaluates different forms of strength and power and why each are important/different. This includes a run-down of the force velocity and power velocity curves, and why looking at both, and establishing them for your athlete is important. This includes an example of how he has “moved the curves” with his athletes with great success.  Two of the methods, among the many, he discussed were whole body vibration and hyper gravity training.

This presentation, as all from Henk, is filled with fantastic analogies and scientific backing to the means and methods provided. If you work with athlete’s that require increases in speed and power, I couldn’t recommend this talk enough for you to help improve those outputs.
