My Thoughts Monday #33-Jay DeMayo, University of Richmond-Changing Behavior Is Not A Quick Fix

“When you’re trying to change behavior or something that’s habitual, like eating habits. Eating habits won’t change over night. It’s not like all of a sudden you’re going to talk to an 18-22 year old and you’re going to be like, “alright, so, now you have to get 5 to 7 servings of vegetables every day, OR ELSE, and you’re only going to eat lean protein, OR ELSE. Or else what? Those massive alterations to a habit, to a lifestyle, we all know are consistently unsuccessful. That’s why they’re called eating habits because it’s a habitual type thing.”

In this weeks My Thoughts Monday I discuss some things that we are doing to hopefully improve behaviors of our student athlete’s. All to often we are looking for quick fixes to help get people to do what we are asking, but as we all know quick fixes don’t work. I share some things that we have messed up with and how I could have done better, and hopefully will do better with in the future.
